Volunteering and giving back have been a foundational part of my practice throughout my career.
1989: Assisted seniors at Heiwa Terrace, a Japanese American senior complex, by providing haircuts and helping with hygiene.
1998–1999: Provided massage therapy at the Aids Alternative Health Care Center in Uptown, Chicago, offering holistic care to individuals with end-stage illnesses such as HIV, cancer, and ALS.
2005: Taught seated self-massage, breathwork, and movement therapy to seniors at the Japanese American Service Committee, addressing stress, arthritis, and racial trauma.
2014: Taught yoga to incarcerated women at Cook County Jail, promoting stress relief and self-care.
2018: Provided guided breathwork sessions to law enforcement to help reduce stress levels.
2019: Organized and taught yoga classes to raise funds for Black Lives Matter and other social justice causes.
2022: Conducted monthly donation-based restorative yoga classes, with proceeds supporting the Chicago Women's Health Center.
2022: Returned to the Japanese American Service Committee to teach seniors movement therapy, self-massage, and breathwork while offering seated chair massage to alleviate pain and inflammation.
